Greece: The Hidden Documentary

My cousin Jane Gabriel's wonderful film about 'Greece: The Hidden War', which caused 'the biggest uproar in the history of British television' when it was screened by Channel 4 in 1986, is about to be shown in Greece for the first time at the Avant Garde Film Festival in Athens, and there is a 90-minute webinar discussion at 6pm (BST) on 22nd October.

I worked on the film as interpreter, travelling all over the country interviewing Left veterans of the Greek Civil War (1943-49). It was an amazing experience and taught me so much about my beloved Greece. I have a family home on Lesbos, a traditionally communist island where this poor little bullet-ridden cherub still stands at the garden gate – a witness to the fighting between the right-wing Greek government army (supported by Britain and the US) and the left-wing Greek People’s Liberation Army (ELAS).
